I don't know if my unit is faulty or not, but it really has trouble drawing enough power from a MacBook as well as an external active USB hub. While on the road without the hub, I could not get it to work at all. On the desktop it works better (with intermittent problems), but this kind of ruins the idea of small portable USB enclosure.

FWIW, the drive I've installed in the StoreJet is the original MacBook drive.

You must have a faulty one since mine works like a charm, also when connected to an active hub. I had no issues with my Macbook (Mid 2007) nor have any issues with my current Macbook Pro (Early 2008). A friend of mine also has the same enclosure which works fine with his Macbook (Mid 2007 I think). Tested with three different drives, the originals from my MB and MBP plus a Samsung 250GB M5S.

Have you also tried to connect the both USB plugs of the cable into the computer? The second plug is to get more power if a single USB port won't give enough. Although I still suspect a faulty unit as I've never needed the extra plug.

OK, this could very well be the case. Mine has never worked without the extra cable for more power, and recently my StoreJet has given me more and more trouble even with the cable attached.
