It could be me having messed something up during the driver installation, but oftentimes at least in my usage this modem drops the connection; the desktop "icon" keeps flashing on and off in an odd manner and whatnot. It might be a driver issue, or it might be just my lousy skills acting out here.
The modem really is quite small --but so wide that should you want to connect it without an extension cable to the left side of MacBook Pro it is not possible if the mains power cord of MBP is attached. And if you connect the modem to the right side, it messes with your mouse usage (if you are right handed).
Mine was delivered with an extension Y cable (2nd usb-lead for extra power?) of some sort, but messing with cables kinda defeats of the purpose of the world's smalles USB modem...
Inspite of all that it has saved my butt a few times when internet access was needed and there was no other way to get it.
os x 10.5.5. & MacBookPro (which is NOT the 2008 MBP model).
